South of Civil started as a way to make the kinds of goods I actually wanted to carry every day — simple in design, but BOLD in presentation. Look, every small maker claims their goods "last forever." They aren't really lying, but come on... nobody wants to carry a wallet forever. Here at SoC, variety, attitude and distinction are the priority.

Of course I make bullet proof goods... everything is built by hand here in Kentucky using the best quality leather, tested and dependable materials, and whatever inspiration I’ve picked up from old trucks, American work ethic, Kentucky roads, muscle cars, small towns, and a life that moves a little slower when you let it.

I’m a husband, a dad of four, a follower of Christ, and somebody who still believes good things are worth making carefully. Most of what comes out of this shop is either custom-made or part of a small limited drop. No warehouses. No mass production. I only make what I love, daggumit.
